Designers for Learning is seeking passionate volunteers to take leadership roles within our organization to advance our nonprofit’s mission to expand educational opportunities for adults struggling with literacy skill gaps. Why Your Help Is Needed

One in six adults lack the basic literacy skills necessary for educational advancement and employment, yet fewer than five percent of those in need are receiving support in government-funded education programs. Designers for Learning connects our vast network of volunteers to crowdsource the design and development of open educational resources to help adults improve their literacy skills for career and college readiness. Our network has grown from 22 service-learner volunteers in 2014 to over 5,000 today. Your help is needed to provide leadership in the planning and execution of either our fundraising, programming, or marketing agendas as we create new opportunities for our network to advance our mission.

The Committee Roles

To assist in the leadership of our rapidly growing organization, our Board of Directors approved the creation of three new standing committees that overlap and complement one another. As outlined in the Role Descriptions for these committees:

  • Fund Development: Provides leadership in the planning and execution of Designers for Learning’s fundraising activities including grants, individual donations, and corporate giving. This committee helps to set policies, priorities, and goals for fundraising programs, including the creation of an overall fundraising plan for our organization.

  • Program: Provides leadership in Designers for Learning’s program development and execution, including oversight of new program offerings, current program models, collaborations, and research requests and initiatives. Coordinates and leads efforts to bring clients, supporters, and prospects to program opportunities.

  • Marketing/Public Relations: Provides leadership by contributing to Designers for Learning’s marketing and public relations plan to ensure it is meeting annual measurable goals. Coordinates efforts around consistent branding, public relations, website, social media communications, newsletters, annual report, annual events, programs, and any other marketing projects or opportunities.

The scope of our projects and size of our network is expanding dramatically but our mission to connect those who want to help with those who need it remains the same. In order to have worthy programs, we need to be creative in finding funding opportunities and effective in marketing programs to all project stakeholders. The careful execution of all three committees will drive our continued success.
